Things to Amaze Republican Friends - Facts and Figures on HCR

Posted on 15:54 by Unknown
I'm almost afraid to put "Republican" in a title post. Google Ads already often has some bizarre notion that this is a Republican site. Or maybe they just splash Repub ads to annoy me. It works..
Anyhoo, here's the Booman with those HCR figures.

For your wingnut friends, the White House just sent over an analysis of what health care reform will do district by district and state by state. Pass it along.
...

Every National corporate "news" channel this evening(exception Ed Shultz, MSNBC) were working their asses off to depict the loathsome teabaggers as American heroes linked to the founding father. After that old criminal Karl Rove was brought on NBC(National Breath of Conservatives) and prodded to bloviate about how the astro-turf/corporate funded teabaggers are patriots. I gave up and headed downstairs for some blessed Internet news with Ed Shultz in the background.
Also while I'm on Blog, Yes I do know that my nearly Republican Congressman Ben Chandler(RDem, KY) voted no on HCR every chance he could.

Ancient Beings - Primeval Trees

Posted on 18:35 by Unknown
Things you happen across while following a thread.

The Oldest Trees on the Planet

The clonal quaking aspen, ancient organism:

While Pando isn’t technically the oldest individual tree, this clonal colony of Quaking Aspen in Utah is truly ancient. The 105-acre colony is made of genetically identical trees, called stems, connected by a single root system. The “trembling giant” got its start at least 80,000 years ago, when all of our human ancestors were still living in Africa. But some estimate the woodland could be as old as 1 million years, which would mean Pando predates the earliest Homo sapiens by 800,000 years. At 6,615 tons, Pando is also the heaviest living organism on earth.

Thoughts Poetic

Posted on 18:21 by Unknown
I'm a nature lover myself, camping, fishing, hiking, all those things that get us out into places we try to convince ourself are unspoiled wilderness, away from the "madding crowd". Then again nature is messy, cruel and dirty.

How pleasant, at the wheel of a powerful Mercedes,
To drive through solitary and grandiose places;
Subtly manipulating the gearstick.
You dominate the hills, the rivers, and all things.

The forests, so close, glitter in the sun
And seem to reflect ancient knowledges;
In the depths of their valleys must lie such marvels,
After a few hours you are taken in;

Leaving the car, the irritations begin;
You stumble into the middle of a repugnant mess,
An abject universe, deprived of all meaning
Made of stones and brambles, flies and snakes.

You miss the parking-lots and the smell of petrol,
The serene, gentle glint of the nickel counters;
It's too late. It's too cold. The night begins.
The forest enfolds you in its cruel dream.

For My Webby Scrapbook: My Job Applications List

Posted on 16:07 by Unknown
For posterity's sake below is a picture of my job search lists for the last 12 months. 224 job applications. That doesn't include all applications because some I didn't right down but it's pretty close. Almost 19 a month, nearly 5 a week. A LONG difficult time. A lot of scary moments and a lot of sleepless nights.
On the lower right page you can see(just barely) one entry circled in red. That's the one I start April 1st. The job I'm working now is just make do work.

Health Care, Cable News Elites

Posted on 15:37 by Unknown
FINALLY. I can sit down, relax and look at the "progressive" view of the news. On the Nets of course. Have to get up EARLY now to be at work by 8AM, and we're not supposed to use the Internet there for "personal use". My new job starts in 1 week and as a cook I'm sure I won't have access to a computer at that job, much less the web.
Sooo...from here on out looks like I'll have to wait till evening now to do all my computer Internet/stuffs.
I did watch and/or hear some of the talking head "News" on corporate cable this morning while getting ready. To them it's STILL a "he said, she said" world, with Republican talking points STILL dominating the discourse. The millionaire gang on NBC's Today Show seemed to be in a catty mood on the health care bill. Particularly Merideth Vieira. She was virtually sneering at David Axelrod when asking him about Republican(you know, the "bi-partisan" party) comments. I also heard comments by both Grampy McPain and Newt "serial adulteror" Gingrich within a few moments

Republicans, the party of "death panels";

Well, Well...Kucinich Will Support Health Care Bill

Posted on 15:34 by Unknown
I agree with Michael Moore, Bill Mahr, and even Jane Hamsher.
Buuut, if I can consider this Bill(and they'll plan on it) a stepping stone to building something better on(single payer eventually?) then I'd have to support it to. My fear is that it's NOT what they're planning on.

Kucinich To Switch Vote, Will Support Health Care Bill

I do kind of wonder what he got policy wise for his endorsement. Or does he feel as I do that it's just a start?

Weekend Astronomy Pics| Titan and The Hubble Ultra-Deep

Posted on 16:06 by Unknown
Saturday night's a good time for some classic space pics don't you think? Here's two of my favorites:
The Hubble "Ultra-Deep Field image" is one my top astronomy pics of all time. Millions of galaxies in a small slice of sky. The lights you see are galaxies with billions of stars in each. Many are easily recognizable as galaxies but many aren't, back into the infinite.

And other worlds; The surface of Titan.

Saturday's Video: "Stepping Out"

Posted on 15:37 by Unknown
Hello Intertubes! It's been a while.

I've been working full time for the last two weeks. It cuts away the ol' Blogging time drastically.
Unlike my old job, at this one we're "not allowed" to visit "non-work related sites". So between chores, work, family and WoW I've been and will continue to be some draughts in my postings.
Now as citizens of the Internets grieve over that realization, here's Master Joe Jackson and the friends on Solid Gold 1982 with one of my fav 80's songs:

Aging Boomers Re-Start Toking?

Posted on 16:01 by Unknown
A Federal(SAMHSA) report has some intriguing statistics involving pot smoking and the Baby Boomer generation(which includes me). I'm not surprised by most of the numbers, including that 44% of the American public now prefer legalization.

"Marijuana Use by Seniors Goes up as Boomers Age."

Photo.

From Alternet.
Oh, and the bizarre guv'ment approved media run about "marijuana causing mental disorders" is at the least distortion and at the worst lies(if you're a boomer you probably knew it sounded bogus when you heard it).

Off to look for a better job and hopefully play WoW.

Astronomy Pic of the Day | Dust Clouds In Orion

Posted on 17:17 by Unknown
And news of a job!
Logging on for just a moment.
I've been working a full time job. It's just office work, etc. at the local senior citizen's center, but it is full time so I'm now there a lot. My sparse posting lately may be even sparser at times now. This job will do while I continue to look for that good "dream" job:-) I've also been seriously looking into getting a Realtor's license while I look for the dream job. This day and time dream jobs are like lottery winners, few and far between.
Anyhoo I'll be on as much as I can, will keep up with the news and you do the same. It's ALMOST time for March Madness!
And how 'bout my sen. Jim Bunning(R, Asshat)? What a Dickcard, 'ey?

Here's my astronomy pic o' the day:

"..The same type of scattering that colors the daytime sky further enhances the blue color. M78 is about five light-years across and visible through a small telescope. M78 appears above only as it was 1600 years ago, however, because that is how long it takes light to go from there to here. M78 belongs to the larger Orion Molecular Cloud Complex that contains the Great Nebula in Orion and the Horsehead Nebula."
